February/March 2023 henge clearance

The first photographs show the result of a strimming session on the trackway in preparation for the main clearance event. They demonstrate the huge task ahead given the massive growth of Gorse that has taken place. The main clearance event took place on Saturday 25th February and the conditions speak for themselves. Another session took place on Wednesday 15th that completed the removal of the Gorse and a general tidy-up.

Following the tidy-up Andy Hickie flew his drone over the site and with specialised software created a series of images highlighting various aspects of the site. Thank you Andy, it adds so much more to our understanding and makes all the efforts worthwhile bringing the henge to the public's attention. The addition of contours helps emphasize the bank, ditch and causeway. There is a depression in the central platform, possibly related to the attentions of antiquarians.

Multispectral image of the henge does not reveal any obvious new features, but highlights beautifully how the vegetation preferentially grows within the banks and ditches of the monument.
