Following a recent, November 2024, planning application that would involve the location of this wall an exchange of emails with NOSAS produced the following information. The left-hand image shows even more clearly where exactly the stone is sited in the wall. Click on image to enlarge.
I asked Meryl to whom the initials in the stone fragment referred. They are MRK or, more likely, KRM. The Mackenzies were local landowners. Kenneth and Rorie were common Mackenzie given names. Meryl points out that there is more discussion of the Mackenzies of Findon in the 17th century in her NOSAS survey of Strathconon, p 28-29.
