Ferintosh Distillery and Chambered Cairn
Whilst this might be considered outwith the boundary of Culbokie distilling whisky played a significant part of the life of the residents of Culbokie and none more so than the Ferintosh Distillery at Mulchaich.
The History Group organised a very successful and interesting walk on Saturday 22nd October 2017 guided by Allan Mackenzie. Allan assisted in the survey that took place with NOSAS under the Adopt-a-Monument scheme which we hope to follow with the Teanagairn Henge.
A Chambered Cairn can be visited on the high ground on the southern boundary of the sitem with evidence of cup marks as shown in a photograph below. It is felt that the capstone is not in its original position. The map reference for the site is NH577568.
The NOSAS report giving the history of the site can be accessed here or by clicking on the first photograph in the Gallery below.
January 2023 The Highland Historic Environment Record (HER) for the Chambered Cairn can be found here. The area is well represented with items of archaeological interest and the following records will be of interest.
