2024 October site inspection.
Andrew Newton conducted a survey of the henge and this is his report.
All is essentially good. The positive news is that the waste gorse is rotting down well and the amount of regrown gorse is less than at this point last year - so annual cutting seems to be beneficial.
The boundaries have not regrown significant overhanging material either.
The gate is in good shape but needs a repaint and most importantly a bolster to it’s upright- I have measured for this today. I will restore gate using treated salvaged timbers as funds have not been made available for the work as requested.
The negative issue is that the top fence has totally collapsed (as predicted). It is now I believe beyond salvage which is a shame because it could have been rescued. My concern is that the land owner may restore the boundary at any point and if this is done it may be less sympathetic to the archaeological material than a rescue of the original fence would have been.
