History report for January 2026
Our website has been upgraded so that it can hopefully be accessed from all digital platforms. We would appreciate being informed of any broken links that have occurred during the transformation as the site was never the easiest to navigate.
As part of our aim to record Tomorrow's History we continue to show progress on the Active Travel construction works. Further information can found within the CCT web pages.
Read how it was discovered that a major producer of maps hoodwinked visitors to the Black Isle during the 1920s that a railway existed between Cromarty and Conon Bridge. With production of the Line having ceased in 1926 all that the visitors would have seen were the abandoned earthworks, fence posts and the only road over rail bridge on the Cullicudden Straight still evident today, if you know where to look!

Our association with NOSAS (North of Scotland Archaeological Society) has resulted in the recommendation of this interesting study of recreational walks made by estates of the Black Isle and the Firths for their families and guests, which includes as an example some mostly-lost paths in Findon Burn that once led to up the waterfall.
As always we welcome your material and suggestions for adding to the history of Culbokie. Contact can be made through history@culbokiect.org
