Community Market history

In 2020 with the advent of Covid-19 lockdown measures the monthly Community Market had to be indefinitely postponed. However, under the initiative of local traders they set-up a weekly Market on the Cairn Housing site adjacent to the Church. This has proved very popular and given the continuing refurbishments (August 2020) to the Findon hall, new roof, disabled access toilet this style of market has certainly filled the gap. The first 8 photographs in the Gallery give an indication of what was on offer.

The ninth and tenth photographs show the advertising that went into preparing the way for the introduction of what was initially called the "Ferintosh Community Market" in 2008, which in 2020 was all that was available for displaying. However, in 2023 a scrapbook created by the family of the then organiser of the Ferintosh Community Market, Kirsty Shaw, was made available and the page "Community Market - the early years" was prepared.

In 2016 when the Culbokie Community Trust took over responsibility for the Market we come into 'modern' times when the History Group displayed publicity material including the metal detectorist's finds from the Glascairn site. We now move forward 2 years to the 10th Anniversary Market in May 2018. The Ross-shire Journal publicity for the 10th Anniversary Market can be viewed here which referred to the setting up of the Market back in 2008.
