History of Culbokie

This project has been set up in 2014 by a small and informal group to gather together local historical information about the village and its surrounding area and to make it more available to the community. If you want to find out more or to join in with the group contact roger.piercy167@btinternet.com

The history of the community had been explored by Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands (ARCH) and the Black Isle Heritage Memories Project from December 2009 to May 2010. Details of the project and our involvement with it can be found here

Explore the history pages by selecting from the menu or for a full list of all History pages, go to the Sitemap.

March 2024 - experimental search tool using Google Chrome for content on the web pages. Enter the search phrase

site:history.culbokiect.org

followed by a space and the phrase/word for which you are searching. Hopefully you will see in the list of "hits" material for which you were looking.

To search for the content on pdf files, such as the Noticeboard, Culbokie Community Trust documents and the Ferintosh Community Council minutes the search phrase is

site:s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/s3.spanglefish.com culbokie  followed by space and the search phrase/word. This will only apply to those pdfs that Google has 'found'. We are still waiting for the first issues of Series 2 Noticeboards to be 'found'.

Alternatively click here. Currently our advice is to use all versions as they produce a different range of hits.

We welcome any suggestions of improvements to the chapters we are creating as these have been compiled from research done through the internet, libraries, museums and conversations with residents and the memorabilia they have been prepared to share with us. The authors are well aware that they might well have missed significant sources of information and would be keen to talk to anyone who may be interested in helping rectify this. If any of the photographs that appear on this site cause offence then please let us know so that we can remove them. Care is taken to ensure that donors of photographs appreciate that we will make use of them in a way to further the aims of the project and this will include the use of Facebook.

The following diagram of Culbokie's history was constructed by members of the community:
